JUKKA KORPIHETE’S NEW LUMINAIRES FOR KERA INTERIOR
Kera Interior invited seven renowned Finnish designers, among them Jukka Korpihete, to design new products for its 2014 lighting collection. The new products are unveiled at the ValoLight event (Habitare fair 2013, Helsinki, September 18.)
Korpihete describes the new series: “With the Lootus series, I wanted to explore and utilize the light‐diffusing properties of acrylic. The multi-layer lampshade diffuses the light softly and effectively. The shape of the lamp was designed to emphasize the softly glowing, gentle light characteristic of this lamp. My aim was to design a series of products that would be suitable for both homes and public spaces.”
The series includes Lootus floor lamp and Lootus suspended lamp.

JUKKA KORPIHETE’S “HIMMELI” BRINGS FINNISH CHRISTMAS TO TOKYO
HIRAMEKI HIMMELI is a Christmas greeting from Finnish designers to Tokyo. 28 himmelis from 25 designers are on show in Tokyo-Midtown commercial centre from 15 November until 25 December, 2012.
“When I designed Himmeli I wanted to do it with traditional principles. As a child I used to help my Grandmother when she was building himmeli herself. Now, recalling the technique, I wanted to build my own Himmeli. Brass gives precious and festive appearance for this piece. Mobile-style structure underlines the idea of Himmeli as an image of the cosmic system”, Jukka describes his own Himmeli.

JUKKA KORPIHETE CREATED ART INSTALLATION “NATURAL POWER” FOR WÄRTSILÄ
Jukka Korpihete was selected by Wärtsilä to create an art installation based on the theme of natural power. Korpihete’s ambitious solution was to install – then film and photo-document – a multi-projector video artwork within the main hall of a former power station – Suvilahti Kattilahalli – in the industrial harbour area in Helsinki, Finland. The result was a site-specific, looping multi-media experience that filled the entire hall of the old power plant with moving pictures and sound. The work consisted of a series of iconic images projected onto a central disc-shaped screen – and also the building’s interior pillars and walls. These images, including the sun, moon, earth, fire, wind and water, served as symbolic representations of diverse types of natural power.
‘Inspired by Natural Power’, is the theme for Wärtsilä’s global calendar for the year 2013. Calendar features still photographs from the film. See the film at: wartsila.com/naturalpower

“DREAMING OF LIGHT”: NEW PICTURES AND OPENING SPEECH
Picture: Jani Ruotsalainen
Jukka Korpihete’s speech at the opening on October 27
"I am very happy now. It is truly great to be here with you at this moment.
In Finland we have very special natural lighting conditions, we have long and dark wintertime. Then we dream of spring, its light. The very name of this exhibition tells the same story.
In this exhibition I present a new luminaire that represent a solar eclipse. It is an unique light phenomenon that we all can experience sometimes.
With my luminaires and light installations I aspire to create light phenomena in constructed environment, my luminaires are small, everyday light phenomena in peoples’ homes.
Autumn has already arrived in Finland, in my hand I have a birch branch in autumn colors, picked yesterday in Jyväskylä, Finland. With these branches I completed my exhibition."

ILMARI TAPIOVAARA AWARD FOR DESIGNER JUKKA KORPIHETE 11th of January 2011
Designer Jukka Korpihete has been awarded with Ilmari Tapiovaara Award 11th of January 2011. Jukka Korpihete is specialized in designing lighting and luminaires. The Award is given every other year as an acknowledgement of especially meritable creative work done for the quality of peoples’ close environment and industrial product culture. The receiver of the Award was chosen by Anne Stenros, President of Design of Kone Oyj, who based the choice as follows: “Jukka Korpihete meets well the design challenge set by Ilmari Tapiovaara: visionary, functional and humane scopes of design culture. The main object of Korpihete’s design is the light in space and then the luminaires for that space. He understands the many dimensions of light, its physiological, philosophical and psychological content. The light itself is the primary material for Jukka Korpihete.”
Ilmari Tapiovaara Award is given by The Aalto University School of Art and Design. The University founded the Award in 2001, named after Ilmari Tapiovaara, one of the most notable Finnish designers and interior architects of the 20th century. At the discretion of the University, the awards can be awarded bi-annually at the University's annual gala.
